FAQS ABOUT MICROBLADING/POWDER BROWS
WHO CAN GET THE TREATMENT?
The treatment is intended for anyone over the age of 18. (Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent)*
CAN WOMEN OF COLOR GET MICROBLADING?
Powder Brows are a much more suitable option that will have better healed results than Microblading. Commonly, women of color tend to hold more moisture in their skin. With an oilier skin type, Microblading strokes can fade quicker, requiring more frequent touch ups, resulting in strokes blending together overtime. Powder Brow is a much more sustainable result.
WHAT TREATMENT IS BEST FOR OILY SKIN TYPES?
Clients with an oily skin type or combination would be better off choosing a Powder Brow. With access oil in the skin, it will rapidly fade Microblading strokes, causing you to need more frequent touch ups, resulting in strokes beginning to touch over time and start to blur together and look muddy.
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE THE TREATMENT
After you reserve your appointment, the Pre-Procedure Advice Form will be emailed to you. This form contains all of the information you need to know, regarding what to avoid, before coming in for your treatment. Some of these restrictions include:
-No alcohol 24hrs before your appointment
-No caffeine the morning of your appointment
-No electrolysis for 5 days before your appointment
-It is important that you check the ingredients of your skincare. All Retinoid ingredients, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, AHA, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid ingredients must be avoided for 4 weeks before your appointment.
-No Botox or fillers for 4 weeks before your appointment
-No Chemical Peels/Laser Peels/Microdermabrasion for 6 weeks before your appointment
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE TREATMENT
The Initial Treatment is scheduled for 3-4 hours. Since each appointment is unique to the client, some appointments need the full 4 hrs, some do not. During the first 1-2 hrs, the shape of the eyebrows will be calculated and drawn according to facial morphology and golden proportion (Phi 1.618). There are multiple tools and measuring devices used to achieve the correct brow shape. During this time, it is not uncommon to be asked to lay down and sit up multiple times to ensure that the position and shape of the brow is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. This is the most important step of the procedure. Once the shape is measured, drawn, and rechecked, the client will be asked to critique anything that is unpleasing to them. When the client has approved the shape, the actual blading takes place. It is typical for the entire blading process to last 1-2 hours. Aftercare instruction papers are given to the client and reviewed before the client leaves. Healing time is typically 4-6 weeks.
DOES IT HURT?
Pain during the treatment is relative. Clients with scar tissue from previous trauma to the brow area usually feel stronger pain, while other clients compare such pain with the one they feel when plucking out eyebrows. In addition, with women having their menstrual cycle, there is an increased sensitivity to pain. It is more irritating than painful.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE TREATMENT
The Perfecting Session, is done 4-6 weeks after the initial treatment. You can expect to see a 10-15% loss of strokes. The pigment color is very dark during the first 5-7 days. 7 days later it loses up to 30-50% of its intensity. If you think that the pigment is too dark, do not try to fade it by yourself. Be patient and wait the 7 days for the pigment to fade naturally. It is common to go through a shedding process which looks like dandruff in the brow. A disappearing phase may also occur. The brow may look worse before it gets better but TRUST THE PROCESS.
IS IT CUSTOMARY TO TIP FOR PERMANENT MAKEUP?
Tipping is very much appreciated but never expected! As with any service-based industry, it is customary to tip 10-20%.
CAN I WORK OUT AFTER THE TREATMENT?
It is important to avoid exercise after the treatment. When we sweat, our sweat contains salt. One of the main ways to remove microblading pigment is with a saline solution (a salt solution). If you sweat before your brows have had a chance to fully heal, you could essentially be removing your own pigment.
CAN I WEAR MAKEUP?
Any makeup on or around the brow area should be avoided until the brows are fully healed.
HEALING
Healing should be complete within 28 days after initial treatment. After 4-6 weeks, it is necessary to have a Perfecting Session to add the pigment that was lost in the meanwhile. If the skin is problematic and oily, several such corrections can be made. Post treatment care makes up 70% of the total treatment success.
Consciously stick and adhere to the given advice. If you do not take the aftercare seriously, you can lose up to 80% of drawn strokes.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Microblading lasts 1-3 years depending on your skin type and lifestyle. Those with oily skin may need more frequent touch ups, typically once a year. Clients with normal to dry skin may only need to return ever 1.5-3 years. If you do not protect the brows with an SPF, sun can prematurely fade the pigment causing you to need a touch up sooner. Any chemical peel or skin exfoliating treatments that do not avoid the eyebrows can also fade the pigment.
